Thank you for visiting the Mountain States Historical website.  We are a locally owned Colorado small business that provides services in archeology, archival research, and cultural resource management in terms of heritage resources and public history.  Eric Twitty, owner and consultant,  specializes in mining related resources.

Our Mission

Mountain States Historical strives to provide the highest quality of service in cultural resource management and historic preservation for public and private interests.

Company Profile

Mountain States Historical is a cultural resource consulting firm intent on researching, documenting, interpreting, managing, and evaluating the significance of historical sites.  We provide services ranging from phone consultation to complete resource management for multi-phase projects.  While Mountain States Historical can work with any type of historic resource, we specialize in those related to mining.  No project or mining-related site is too small or too large.  Our projects range from basic cultural resource law compliance to historic preservation to heritage tourism, and usually involve some combination of the above.

Mountain States Historical has a record of completing projects on time and within or under budget, and producing the highest quality work.  Service in the best interest of our clients and their historic resources is of prime importance.  In business since 1998, we have completed more than 50 cultural resource projects, mostly involving resources with aspects of historical archaeology and engineering.  A sample of clients includes the Bureau of Land Management, the U.S. Forest Service, the Division of Minerals and Geology, the Willow Creek Reclamation Committee, the Cripple Creek & Victor Gold Mining Company, and the Town of Breckenridge .

Mountain States Historical completed a variety of projects that lend to the breadth and depth of our experience with historic resources, which translates into efficient and high quality work.  Organization founder Eric Twitty began in the cultural resource field in 1992, established Mountain States Historical in 1998 while working toward an M.A. degree in American History, and finished the graduate program at UC Denver the following year.  In 2002, Mr. Twitty’s thesis was published as the mining history treatise Riches to Rust: A Guide to Mining in the Old West.  Prior to cultural resource work, Mr. Twitty received a B.A. degree in Environmental Science and served as a groundwater geologist in the environmental industry.  This background has enabled Mr. Twitty to bring an understanding of environmental and water-quality issues to the cultural resource field, especially as they apply to mining resources.

Mountain States Historical is prepared to go above and beyond to balance the interest of our clients with the need to treat historic resources objectively.  We have a lengthy record of building positive relationships with clients and government agencies involved in the cultural resource field, which is crucial for efficiently completing potentially difficult and controversial projects.  Mountain States Historical will be pleased to furnish a list of client references and projects.  In sum, we can complete cultural resource work quickly, efficiently, and cost-effectively, and ensure a high-quality product at competitive rates.
